How to play Star Battle

Start Star Battle by looking at the playing area and its controls. Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Check the rule that explains your first action. Look at what changes after your first action.

Solve ten 6×6 puzzles with one star in every row, column and region. These boards use the one-star rule.

Make the controls familiar

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Place one star in each row, column and region, with no touching stars even diagonally. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Step by step

  1. Tap to place a star, mark a cell or clear it.
  2. Respect fixed starter stars.
  3. Check rows, columns and coloured regions.
  4. Check puzzle verifies the final arrangement.

Controls

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A useful example

A placed star rules out all eight neighbouring squares. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Keep the controls nearby.

Watch out for this

Different rows do not make diagonal neighbours legal. Check the rule before repeating the action. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
