How to play Forty Thieves Solitaire

Open Forty Thieves Solitaire, check the instructions and begin a round. Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Look at what changes after your first action.

Two decks, ten columns, single-pass stock, no recycle. Free solo play, no wagering.

Read before acting

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Keep the objective visible.

Your goal

Build eight suit foundations from ace to king. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

Step by step

  1. Move one card at a time; build down in the same suit. Empty columns accept one card.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Contact us with the game and device if a control does not respond.

A useful example

A club 5 can move onto a club 6, but a whole run cannot move together. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Check the stated objective.

Watch out for this

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Check the rule before repeating the action. After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again.
