How to play Ludo

Bring your attention to one round of Ludo. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Look at what changes after your first action. Use the opening round to become familiar with the layout. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

A useful comparison

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Refer to the controls when needed.

Your goal

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Try to explain the aim in your own words.

Step by step

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A useful example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Consider the next action carefully.

Watch out for this

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Check the rule before repeating the action. When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round.
